Why Build Your Business Your Way?

My why behind building this newsletter and what you can expect

A few weeks back, I was on a call with a single mom of 2 kids.

We were good acquaintances on Twitter and decided to jump on a call since she seemed frustrated with her coaching business.

I never expected the call to become a turning point for me and the reason for starting this newsletter…

The call started great. She had trouble figuring out her niche, and I wanted to do the best I could to help her with it and increase her confidence with her offers at the same time.

But as we went along, I started to notice a weird energy. Something was bothering her. Something more than, “I’m unable to figure out my niche.”

Concerned, I decided to ask her what was up.

I did not expect the floodgate of emotions that came after…

It was the best coaching session I have ever had.

The problem? She was facing immense friction.

She could never implement the “bro-ey” advice on Twitter because it overwhelmed her. Constantly felt guilty about not doing enough. But she couldn’t do more, too, because she had to take care of the house and the kids.

The amazing woman was going through this vicious cycle of guilt and frustration.

All because she thought she wasn’t enough.

And was fitting herself into an “imaginary” business instead of building it in a way that suited her lifestyle.

Unknowingly, the call made me rethink everything I had gone through, forcing me to listen to what my gut told me all along.

You see, I was precisely in her position a few months back.

I recently learned that I had ADHD (self-diagnosed) and have a humungous history of mental health issues.

When I started my entrepreneurial journey this year, I was like many people on the Internet. My goal was to hit the 6-figure income, no matter what.

What started with enthusiasm slowly turned into dread.

I could never implement the traditional advice on Twitter (or anywhere, for that matter).

I struggled to find my niche (it took nine months). There were periods where too much interaction sent me into an anxiety spiral. I thought there was only ONE way to set up my business; if I didn’t, I’d fail.

Fail hard. And upset my family.

I was shit afraid to talk about this because of the sensitivity of it, and I never wanted people to sympathize with me.

It was a nightmare.

I slowly started feeling stuck. Like I was in a closed box.

Until…

I didn’t give a fuck anymore.

You know you reach a point where you don’t give a shit? Because what worse can happen, right? I had reached that point.

I realized those arbitrary numbers were imaginary goals I had forced upon myself. I had to start prioritizing myself first, and the rest came later. I had to make my business work around my needs and not the other way around.

It was the most significant life-altering shift for me.

Because I finally felt free.

The weird thing? Once I started accepting myself, business boomed. I started getting clients, worked with fantabulous empathetic people, and scaled the business to $1000+/mo in less than two months (It’s a lot in India). From practically nothing.

And today, my business is growing steadily.

The incident led to an explosion of conversations with my friends, peers, clients, mentors, and whatnot.

Making me realize that everyone was going through pretty much the same thing!

There were just living in different kinds of boxes, that’s it. Some had spent years figuring this out and making it work for them. Some were right in between the whirlwind. Some were stuck, not knowing what to do, and still blaming themselves.

The incident also kickstarted my search for empathetic, genuine, inclusive content.

Voila! Other than a few fantastic creators, none were actively discussing it.

I found my gap right there.
