Are you aligning all your identities in your business?
Hey!
Before we begin, I wanted to take feedback from you for a product I’m planning to build. Can you fill-up the below poll for me? It would truly be helpful!
3 weeks back, I was coaching one of my clients to craft an offer and had asked him to get as creative with it as possible.
Last week, when we had the session, he mentioned he was facing intense friction while crafting the offer and was somehow unable to bring himself to do it.
Of course, we dug deeper and deeper and finally found the ah-ha moment.
To set the context, he was a writer/creator and slowly wanted to become a writing coach. But as he was crafting the offers, he realized he faced friction between his identity as a coach and writer.
He wanted to respect both his identities. He wanted to bring both of them together. He wanted to design and run a profitable business in a way that converged both his sides, where one energized the other and vice-versa.
And somehow, he believed he wouldn’t be able to do this.
When I asked why he was stumped.
He wasn’t the only one facing this problem. I’m sure many of you do too.
I also faced it with my identity as a writer and a coach.
One of my friends, an athlete, was also going through this phase. You see, he was a passionate runner who also wanted to coach other beginner runners to become the best version of themselves. And was almost terrified of leaving one identity behind to pursue another.
After one session, he realized that he needn’t leave one behind at all. He could take both of them together to set up a business that fit his needs, mission, and passion.
This rule can be applied to any industry, to be honest.
This is the beauty of Your Business Your Way, isn’t it?
There are no rules here!
You create the rules to bring the best version of yourself into your impactful work!
You don’t need to coach people for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, throughout the year to run a coaching business.
If you have something else that brings you energy and exponentially improves how you serve your clients powerfully, go for it! Decide on the number of clients you want to work with monthly to fulfill your identity as a coach, and for the rest of the time (again, you can decide that), do what serves your soul.
Haven’t you seen people running multiple businesses?
Or having multiple side hustles when having a full-time job?
Or working part-time in a job they love and running their business for the rest of the time?
It’s the same concept here!
Below is a poor (I’m not a great artist) representation of how you can design your business:

To give you a deeper behind the scenes of my business for you to get ideas from (because I’m taking a similar path):
Last October, I decided to go completely into my coaching business because, for years, I had constantly juggled multiple stuff.
I was too influenced by Twitter bros and feared I’d fail if I didn’t take this path.
Which was the stooooopidest decision I’ve made.
Thank god, through these 2 sessions, I realized my mistake soon enough.
Don’t get me wrong, I love coaching people and getting transformations in them. But it is energy-intensive, and I also love my alone time as an ambivert.
Plus, I realized my ADHD brain needs the constant dopamine hit of multiple projects. Juggling between projects wasn’t making me weaker. It was only making me the best version of myself.
I missed writing.
I’m not talking about this newsletter or social media for business. I’m talking about researching various topics deeply, looking for new experiences to process and write about… and more.
I even want to become a scuba diving instructor someday. And, of course, write about it.
There was a time I took hour-long nature walks to bask in the greenery because that’s when I got my best ideas and perspectives.
While focusing (okay obsessing) on my coaching business, I left all of them behind…thinking I’m only getting more productive. What a load of crap…I wasn’t implementing my own advice.
So last week, I restructured my whole business and day-to-day tasks:
I plan to work with only 6 high-ticket clients (max) at a time
The first 2 hours of the day are for writing. I canceled all my morning meetings
I plan to release at least 4 to 5 products (ebooks, courses, or toolkits) this year to tap into my creative side. I do want to make travel a part of my life, so some passive income would be supremely helpful
I started reading books from various genres again! History, feminism, travel, and more! (yes, I do read multiple at a time)
and…though I haven’t figured out all the kinks, I’ve never been happier.
Remember, this is my story…yours might be different!
But the whole point of this newsletter is that you can decide what you wanna be.
And all this stems from awareness. If you’ve been feeling any friction in your business recently, I will request you tap into your identities. The core reason might be different, but there’s a good chance it’s because of how you’re running it.
From there on, you can decode how you want to design your day and go from there.
At any point, if it gets too confusing or overwhelming, let me know. I’ll do my best to help!
Until next time,Shruthi
